Lead Programmer

Position Summary: The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing and producing efficient G-code programs for CNC machining centers (mills/lathes) utilizing modern CAD-CAM software in a solid modeling environment.

Primary Responsibilities of this position:

  • Create G-code programs for efficiently manufacturing parts using EdgeCam 2018 R2 software
  • Produce process drawings using Solid Modeling package
  • Read and interpret blueprints and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, control settings, machining methods, and operational sequences
  • Develop machining practices that increase safety and throughput, while reducing setup rates and non-conformances
  • Estimate machining durations for quoting purposes
  • May observe operation of machine during first article to prove instructions provided, for first run programs
  • Review new part machining requirements for manufacturability on existing equipment
  • Must be able to set-up and run CNC machines, as needed
  • Follow machining guidelines for part families and components
  • Responsible for recommending and maintaining tooling levels for the machine shop
  • Responsible for specifying and ordering tooling required to machine components on a production basis
  • Properly setup and operate various CNC mills and lathes to produce complex, quality, machined components within specified tolerances
  • Train, develop and mentor others in the department
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities for this position:

  • Knowledge of G-code program interpretation, setup, and operation of CNC lathes, Live tooling lathe, and 4 & 5 axis mills with Fanuc, Mitsubishi, and Hiedenhain controls required
  • Knowledge of manufacturing Acme, Stub acme, and dual lead threads required
  • Experience with work planes or multiple CPL's required
  • Basic Trigonometry required
  • Understands G,D,&T and how it applies to programming, machining and measurement of parts
  • Practical experience machining exotic super alloys, i.e. 718 Aged Inconel and Titanium
  • Knowledge and experience using Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks preferred
  • Knowledge and experience using Visual Mfg ERP system preferred
  • Microsoft Office required
  • Extensive knowledge of metal working manufacturing practices
  • Extensive knowledge of inspection practices

Minimum experience required for this position:

  • Advanced Edge-Cam experience preferred

Required education for this position:

  • High School Diploma; or GED and Vocational training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Production Planning Support Specialist

The ideal candidate for the position of Production Planning Support Specialist will add value to NKW's success by supporting production planning activities to include, providing excellent customer service; possess a technical/mechanical aptitude and commitment to achieving the organization's goals.

Position Summary: Coordinates and expedites flow of materials, parts, and assemblies between sections or departments, according to the production and shipping schedules or department priorities.

Primary Responsibilities of this position:

  • Coordinate and expedite flow of materials, parts, and assemblies between sections or departments
  • Assist Supply Chain Manager with planning and controlling of inventory, raw material and finished goods
  • Read production schedules, inventory reports, and work orders to determine type and quantity of materials required, availability of stock, and order priority
  • Maintain accurate physical inventory of raw material and finished goods
  • Complete labeling requirements of all incoming materials
  • Responsible for accurate labeling and maintaining of all inventory locations
  • Complete accurate inventory transactions in the ERP system
  • Print work orders and maintain revision control for items currently in process
  • Purchase and manage supply orders from vendors
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Coordinate with shipping department to schedule packaging requirements for outbound customer shipments

First Class CNC Machinist

This is a full-time, day shift position. Lathe and Mill experience required – THIS IS NOT A LATHE POSITION.

  • Recent experience running both CNC mill and lathe machines within the last 6 months
  • Perform and complete setup, operate various CNC 4th axis vertical machining centers, CNC 2 and 4 axis lathes with live tooling capabilities without supervision
  • Ability to perform and complete setup, and operation of 5 axis mill, preferred
  • Program at the machine control when required (i.e. turning, facing, drilling, threading, tapping, canned cycles)
  • Machine a variety of complex parts, while maintaining a very high level of quality, accuracy, and productivity
  • Design and manufacture fixtures of all types as the process requires
  • In-process inspection of machined parts to confirm program/tool offsets to achieve dimensional accuracy
  • Train and mentor others in the department
  • Understands and adheres to all company health, safety and manufacturing procedures
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities for this position:

  • Five (5) years + of machinist experience with conventional CNC equipment
  • Experience with Mitsubishi CNC vertical machining center, and Mori-Seiki CNC lathes, a plus
  • Execute machine set up by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, and interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Ability to set-up various multi-axis machining centers for short production runs, utilizing optimized set-up techniques
  • Requires a strong, collaborative relationship with programming to optimize accuracy, cycle time, tooling selection, to improve lean manufacturing practices
  • Ability to program at the machine control when required (i.e. turning, facing, drilling, threading, tapping, canned cycles)
  • CAM Programming experience, a plus
  • Ability to program using CAD CAM software, on 3, 4, and 5 axis mills within 6 months, if not capable at time of hire
  • Strong working knowledge of various cutting tools, insert geometries, modern carbide grades and coatings required to machine high temp super alloys
  • Ability to calculate SFM and IPM/IPR per cutting tool specifications

Experienced Manual Lathe Machinist

The ideal candidate for the position of Manual Lathe Machinist will possess the knowledge to apply proper machining techniques and procedures according to print specifications, meeting internal and external customer needs and specifications. This is a full-time, day shift position.

Primary Responsibilities of this position:

  • Properly setup and operate various manual lathes
  • Machine parts within print tolerance
  • Monitoring the cutting conditions during the machining process and adjust feeds and speeds for process improvement
  • Meet target efficiencies for part duration per work order traveler
  • Performs duties independently or with minimum assistance

Required Skills and Abilities for this position:

  • 5 (five) years' experience operating manual lathes (Weiler and Summit lathes, a plus)
  • Ability to apply proper machining techniques and procedures
  • Consistently machine +/- .001" features
  • Indicate diameters on 4 jaw chuck with .002" TIR
  • Machine internal and external angles using compound
  • Ability to calculate surface footage
  • Working knowledge of various cutting tools, insert geometries, modern carbide grades
  • Calculate and apply correct surface footage and feed rates per material and tool types
  • Must be able to read and comprehend work instructions, drawings, and blueprints
  • Moderate working knowledge of GD&T
  • Basic computer skills for time entry and document lookup
  • Basic math skills to interpret drawings
